Canadian police are investigating whether the man who shot and killed a soldier and stormed into the parliament building in Ottawa had help in plotting his attack.
The attack by 32-year-old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who according to US sources was a recent convert to Islam, came two days after another incident in Quebec.
Police said Zehaf-Bibeau had travelled to the capital seeking a passport and that he had intended to travel to Syria, a hot spot of Islamic State (IS) activity, after recently undergoing a "radicalisation process".
Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner Bob Paulson has also revealed said investigators had linked Zehaf-Bibeau to someone charged with what he called a terrorist-related offence.
