Motorists will begin paying more for petrol in a fortnight, after the Federal Government announced plans to bypass Parliament to implement a fuel excise increase.
The Government will give effect to its budget measure by increasing tariffs, in a move which will begin on November 10.
It means the tax on fuel will rise by about half a cent per litre.
Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says the impact on the average household will be about 40 cents per week.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten attacked the move as "a new sneaky tax on Australian motorists".
