The US Federal Reserve ends its quantitative easing stimulus program after six years of pumping money into the economy via asset purchases to shore up growth.
The move to end the practice signals confidence the US economic recovery will remain on track despite signs of a slowdown in many parts of the global economy.
At its peak, the bond buying program pumped $US85 billion a month into the US financial system.
